Arsenic And Old Rhino Horns

Filed under: arsenic, art theft, stupidity — captainstlucifer @ 3:04 pm

Thieves absconded with two priceless rhinoceros horns from the Iziko Museum in Cape Town, South Africa.

Sadly for the unwitting nitwits, they have exposed themselves to more than unpleasant legal ramifications.

Taxidermy mounts in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century were soaked in arsenic and coated in DDT to prevent deterioration and insect infestation.

Both of these chemicals retain their toxicity for a very, very long time.

As ground rhino horns are prized for their alleged aphrodisiac qualities, these deadly horns could cause quite a bit of unexpected side effects for the consumer.

Hmmmm…is that a scent of almonds in the air?
